The Ruby box features spalted maple sides and a claro walnut top. The bottom is made from sugar maple. The art is created from the following softwoods and hardwoods: sugar maple, ambrosia maple, English walnut, Baltic birch ply, cherry, ash and vermillion.
The work is called “Ruby” because there’s a small piece of vermillion that sparkles like a deep-red ruby against a backdrop of golden ash. It’s kind of hidden, like a precious gem.
